Mobile Solutions Seminar Provides Vision of Wireless Future
Grupo Utopia´s Wireless
Networking and WAP Seminar at the
Palma Real Hotel on July 29th and 30th
was another success in the Seminar Series Story.
While the seminar was competing in the local market with several major
events going on, including a Major Security Seminar by ITS, Utopia´s
seminar was well attended by major players in the local and national
wireless market.
Seminar Sponsor Ericsson gave two days of presentations on developments
in the GSM wireless market, and demonstrated new technologies available to
mobile Internet users. "The attendees got a chance to see some of the
amazing technologies available to mobile Internet users in other
countries," said David Anderson, president of Grupo Utopia. "I think this
conference raised the bar in what is available to companies and
individuals as ICE continues to develop their implementation of the
Wireless Web using GPRS."
Utopia upgraded the 802.11 wireless network in the Palma Real Hotel so
that all the participants would have access to a high speed Internet
connection with their wireless enabled hand held computers and notebook
computers. The Palma Real was the first hotel in Costa Rica to install an
802.11 based wireless network for guest. The solution was provided by
Grupo Utopia, and has resulted in an explosion of interest in the
technology. Utopia President David Anderson hosted a roundtable discussion
on the various wireless options including demonstrating solutions by Palm
in 802.11, GPRS and Bluetooth. "The point of the Seminar was to introduce
people to the many options available in connecting wirelessly. It was
exciting to see people´s eyes opened to the possibilities." Anderson said.
"Ericsson was able to present to the attendees a broad picture of GSM/GPRS
technology applications, and to explain Bluetooth technology, which is
coming standard on most of the new GSM Cellular phones. We were able to
expand on that during the Roundtables by explaining the idea of "Always
available connectivity using 802.11, bluetooth and GPRS."
The seminar was attended by key decision makers and strategist from ICE,
RACSA, Banco de Costa Rica, Banco Nacional, Motorola, Siemens, Price
Waterhouse, Advansys and members of the techology press. |
