Grupo Utopia Brings Palm Tungsten W to Costa Rica

San Jose, Costa Rica, May 12, 2003:   Grupo Utopia CEO David Anderson, announced today that the company is working with ICE and Palm to bring Palm's revolutionary Tungsten W handheld to the Costa Rican Market. Grupo Utopia is an important Strategic Partner and developer for Palm in the Latin American Market, and was the first to bring the new handheld into Costa Rica. “The Tungsten W is a revolutionary leap for Costa Rica in terms of a true business communication device,” Anderson said. “We are grateful to Palm for giving us the opportunity to be the first to use this device in Costa Rica and are working hard to get it certified by ICE for sale and use on Costa Rica's brand new GSM/GPRS network.

Utopia leads the way in wireless vision

The Tungsten W is a combination Palm Handheld computer and cell phone/Internet Terminal. It differs from similar devices already on the local market by its large and vibrand color screen, and Industry Standard Palm OS operating system. While devices by Motorola and Sony-Ericsson have built in WAP browsers, and some PDA functionality, the Tungsten W is a full fledged handheld, with robust communication capabilities.

“Grupo Utopia has always had a distinct technical vision and led the way in wireless, but the TW, will finaly give Costa Rican business users what users of devices like the RIM Blackberry in the U.S. have had for the last several years, a true extension of the office, and an always on Internet connection with the speed and software to make mobile access a worthwhile effort,” Anderson said.

“We are currently working with ICE and Palm's Engineering group to optimize the tool for the Costa Rican Market, and will be offering this summer a number of exciting applications based on the technology.”

Grupo Utopia Leads the Way in Contact Center Solutions Planning

San Jose, Costa Rica, November 18, 2002:   David Anderson is considered to be the father of the Call Center Industry in Costa Rica. When he founded Acer Information Services, (A 450 seat bilingual call center serving clients in the United States) eight years ago, it served as proof that Costa Rica could provide a base of bilingual talent to the high technology world. Since the founding of AIS, Costa Rica has become host to a whole new technology industry, transforming the business landscape of Costa Rica, and opening the country to innumerable new opportunities. Anderson returned to Costa Rica a year ago to found Grupo Utopia www.grupo-utopia.com , a software development and consulting company that is once again providing leadership in the Contact Center Market.

Utopia Professional Services – The Experts in Contact Centers

“When I first returned to Costa Rica, my idea was to found another call center here. Since September 11 th , the Call Center Outsourcing Market has somewhat dried up in terms of investment and revenue opportunity, but in its place a whole new market has arisen,” said Anderson. “More and more companies are seeing the value of managing the customer relationship through customer interaction. Grupo Utopia has in the last six months been establishing some valuable alliances and business relationships and developing a customer base in Contact Center Consulting. Our expertise in this area, and our agnostic approach to solutions, provides our customers with objective and comprehensive consulting, that allows them to establish or improve an existing customer service or build one,” Anderson explained.

Utopia Professional Services S.A., the Grupo Utopia division responsible for call center consulting, has formed alliances with several local telephony solution providers. “We are very excited about some of the relationships we have formed. In developing solutions for several clients here, we have had the opportunity to work closely with a number of the telephony and systems solutions providers. We are thrilled at the relationships we have formed. Our goal is to provide complete contact center and call center upgrade solutions to our clients by working closely with solution providers. Our History in Costa Rica provides us with credibility when talking about Contact Centers, and we have the expertise and contacts to provide a total solution. We realize that as the market for Sports Books, small to medium offshore support organizations and local contact centers grows, Utopia will continue to have opportunities to lead the market,” Anderson said.

Introducing Grupo Utopia Internet Access

San Jose, Costa Rica, November 18, 2002:   Grupo Utopia CEO David Anderson, announced today Grupo Utopia's   latest product, Grupo Utopia Internet Access (GUIA). “Guia means Guide in Spanish. When we were thinking of the idea of creating a turnkey wireless internet solution for Hotels, Restaurants and Internet Cafes, based on the original “Rocket,” concept we were tossing around names for the product, one of our partners called it Grupo Utopia Internet Access, and GUIA came to mind. We have always considered ourselves a visionary company, leading the way in this technology, and the name just stuck,” Anderson said.

Grupo Utopia ' s “GUIA” guides the Way to a mobile Internet Future

This week GUIA will have its official launch at the Palma Real Hotel in San Jose. The Palma Real was chosen out of several clients asking for the product because of its prestige as a “business” hotel. “The Palma Real was the perfect place to launch GUIA,” said Utopia Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “It is an elegant hotel with a reputation for offering a business friendly environment, not to mention it is just a few hundred meters from El ICE.”

GUIA will offer visitors to the Palma Real access to a high-speed wireless network throughout the hotel, on every floor, in every room and throughout the hotel's conference rooms and lobby. Visitors to the Palma Real will be able to rent wireless cards for their notebooks, or use their own wirelessly enabled equipment with a password provided by Palma Real. “We are really excited by this opportunity,” said Strasburger. “We will be extending the Palma Real network the first of the year with a Palm based solution that will provide even more flexibility.”

GSM, Palm and Bluetooth, a winning Combination

San Jose, Costa Rica, November 18, 2002:   Grupo Utopia CEO David Anderson, announced today Grupo Utopia's plans to promote Palm's new Tungsten handheld, and the Bluetooth wireless standard built into the new handheld, as part of Utopia's GUIA product Strategy. “When I saw Tungsten I was overwhelmed with excitement,” Anderson said. “We have been working with Palm for the last year, looking at ways to incorporate their products into a Utopia offering. Palm has been a strong advocate of Bluetooth for over a year, and despite the fact that the technology is not well known here in Costa Rica, it is a powerful addition to our offerings.”

Bluetooth Opens The Doors to New Possibilities

“Bluetooth is a powerful technology with a low cost of ownership, lower levels of complexity than competing technologies, and most important, very low power consumption. Palm was very visionary in choosing to build this technology into their latest handheld, and we are sure it will help to continue their leadership position in handheld technology” Anderson said.   “Palm has given us tremendous personalized support in the last year, and we are very happy to have Tungsten Ò , as a foundation for our new GUIA product. We believe the Palm product will give us an exciting edge in providing a cost effective alternative to our clients who offer wireless internet access to their own customers.”

Anderson explained that the combination of a Bluetooth enabled phone and Tungsten, is a powerful communications tool, and one Utopia intends to enhance through a wide variety of Mobilus solutions. Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology standard much like the more commonly known 802.11, now experiencing explosive growth here in Costa Rica. Anderson explained that Bluetooth is a standard that has found widespread use in Europe in connecting a variety of devices, and is built into many GSM products.

Grupo Utopia Announces GSM Strategy

San Jose, Costa Rica, November 18, 2002:   Grupo Utopia CEO David Anderson, announced today Grupo Utopia's plans to incorporate ICE's new GSM telephony service into Utopia's product strategy. “We are very excited to see how quickly ICE is moving on their new GSM initiative,” Anderson said. “GSM, and the IP services it provides, gives Grupo Utopia's products a way to extend outside the boundaries of the wireless networks we create for our clients. We see tremendous opportunity to provide our clients with extensions to products like our Wireless Waiter product. A re staurant or hotel manager can now access the wireless waiter POS from anywhere world wide and see information on the performance of his restaurant in real time.   We also see an opportunity to develop applications on the GSM WAP platform that will give our clients access to a wide variety of CRM data in their contact centers. This is all very exciting for us.”

BRAVE NEW WORLD OF COMMUNICATIONS POSSIBILITIES

“GSM offers a new world of communication possibilities to Costa Rica. The technology and features it offers will provide Costa Ricans a new “Mobile” window on the world, and   Grupo Utopia plans to play a big role in opening and expanding that window,” Anderson said. “We are particularly excited about working with Palm, Inc. who has given us tremendous support implementing products based on their revolutionary new “Tungsten” product. Combining Tungsten and its built-in Bluetooth technology, with A Sony-Ericcson phone, also with built-in Bluetooth, gives Utopia an out-of-the-box communication solution. One advantage we have is that we have worked closely with Palm for over a year and understand Bluetooth better than anyone in the local market.”

Anderson explained that the combination of a Bluetooth enabled phone and Tungsten, is a powerful communications tool, and one Utopia intends to develop a major product on. Bluetooth is a short-range wireless technology standard much like the more commonly known 802.11, now experiencing explosive growth here in Costa Rica. Anderson explained that Bluetooth is a standard that has found widespread use in Europe in connecting a variety of devices, and is built into many GSM products.
