Customer
Service Company in Costa Rica
With
the goal to provide telephone support for the United States and the Latin
segment of that nation and software development for wireless devices, PDA Utopia
will initiate operations in Costa Rica. David Anderson, CEO and founder of the
company originally from California, commented that the decision to open an
office in Costa Rica was very well studied.
The strategic location of this country provides a door to Latin America
and the labor force is highly educated in English, as well as in technology. The
company’s operations involve customers making calls to a toll-free number
installed in San Jose, California; which immediately is transferred to the call
center in Costa Rica, where their questions are answered. The company will start
operations at the end of January, with an initial investment of $2,5 million. Stage II requires an additional $3 million investment.
At first, they will hire 100 people and in a near future they hope to hire 200
more people.
Anderson
first set foot in Costa Rican earth almost ten years ago, when he was in charge
of Acer Information Services, S.A., the first call center in the country.
Anderson described his work at Acer like the beginning of a very close
relationship with Costa Rica that keeps getting closer as he plans the opening
of his own company. In the area of software development, PDA Utopia has
developer agreements with Palm, Nokia, Erickson and Apple.
PDA Utopia will launch a new application that according in to Anderson
will be a system that will facilitate the access to the information networks of
any company through the Internet from any wireless device: pager, cellular, PDA,
etc; no matter where the user is. In
general, the development of PDA Utopia in the software field is directed to
produce applications that ease daily problems such as live traffic reports,
sales information, or managing the orders in restaurants and others.
