Mixed emotions on 9/11 Verdict
ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (Reuters) - September 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui should spend his life in prison instead of being executed for his role in the hijacked airliner attacks, a U.S. jury decided on Wednesday. I am pro-death penalty... But I have mixed emotions about this one. You kill this guy, he becomes a poster child for terrorist. Put him in jail for the rest of his life, and he has time to think... A LONG time, about what he did... Don't allow him to publish any books, write letters or have any contact with the outside world. Based on his age and apparent health, he will probably live another 50 years, all of it behind bars, surrounded by people who hate him... (This guy would not last 5 minutes in the General Population...) So I suspect this is the perfect punishment for him. Rusty has a powerful opposing point of view. The Moderate Voice has a great roundup, as they usually do with issues like this. and Wizbang suggest he may use prison as a recruiting ground. The general consensus leans towards, "He should have fried." Like I said, I am not against the Death Penalty, but in this case, I think locking him up and throwing away the key may be a better punishment. |
