USC Coach staying with Trojans!

USC's Jarrett will enter NFL draft

Asked if he had closed the door on the possibility of becoming the Miami Dolphins' coach, Carroll said, "Yeah. I thought I said that yesterday. ... I'm not wavering."

Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga, in the market for a coach since Nick Saban left to take the Alabama job, had met with Carroll for four hours on Sunday in Costa Rica, where the coach was vacationing.

Emphasis mine. Coach Carroll knows where to Party!

Too bad about Jarrett, but USC will have plenty of talent to start their run to next year's national title. They should have been in it this year.

Ohio State just got their asses whupped...

capt.bcs31801090439.bcs_championship_football_bcs318.jpgFlorida humiliated them (41-14), five times the yardage (372-82)... Kept them under 100 yards total for the game, it was a rout! now USC players must be crying....
This game should have been played on Thanksgiving, OSU were the biggest Turkeys I have seen all year. Jeeze I am pissed!

I mean the Florida defense just ate the OSU offense alive. Hell, they were so hardcore they were making sacks without a helmet. What the hell was on the Team Table for these guys. Do they EAT Gators, (Live Ones), as part of their training regimine or what?

What thrilled the hell out of me was that none of the so called experts even gave these guys a chance. And they played like it. Like they simply did not care. They came to whip ass, and they did it.

All I can say is right on Gators. I don't remember the last time I saw a Number One rated, undefeated team, get manhandled like that.

This:

Florida - yes Florida -- owned the field it wasn't supposed to be on, embarrassing Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith and No. 1 Ohio State 41-14 on Monday night to run away with the national championship.

Chris Leak and Tim Tebow showed off coach Urban Meyer's twin quarterback system to perfection as the No. 2 Gators became the first Division I school to hold football and basketball titles at the same time.

Now, only one question remains: What about Boise State?

Playing on the very same field where the undefeated Broncos stunned Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day, Florida (13-1) routed the previously unbeaten Buckeyes (13-1).

Just about says it all...

Bowl Games

Props to John, whose beloved Mountaineers won a fantastically played Gator Bowl today!

Meanwhile, my Trojans are giving me a heart attack with the score tied 3-3 at the half with Michigan!

Update First Series Second Half... Now that was a piss poor way to start the half. One pass (successful) and two runs... Throw the damned ball!

Update: 13 Unanswered points... Now that is what I'm talkin' about!

Update: I don't want to gloat just yet, but USC's defence is treating Michigan's offensive line line ugly stepchildren. Damn, that dropped pass was six!

Update: 62 Yard score! In YO Face!

Well, I can relax now.
32-18!

Congrats to the Saprissistas!

Congratulations to my friends who are Saprissa fans. You won another "Classico," and another championship (yawn), whats that... the third one THIS YEAR? Whatever...

A classic is when two teams who are heated rivals play ONCE a year, or in a championship series... especially when its all on the line... I am thinking USC vs. Notre Dame, Boston Celtics vs. Lakers... Not a soccer game that happens 20 times a year...

Nevertheless, congrats... You get to brag for what... a whole couple of months, before it starts all over again?

We lost. I don't make excuses. UCLA's defense dominated the game, UCLA's offense did enough to win. Enough said.

Well tomorrow is the FINAL game of the season, and fittingly, all the marbles are on the table. If USC beats UCLA tomorrow, then USC will be headed to their third straight BCS Championship game, against the undefeated Ohio State Buckeyes.

I expect that they will beat the Bruins tomorrow, now I just need to find someone from Ohio to bet with!

Tomorrow I will be going to watch the USC vs. UCLA game with one of my best friends. He wearing his UCLA jersey, and I my just delivered USC Jersey (A gift from him). Hope he does not want to tear it off of me by the end of the game!

Hey Gregg, kickoff is at 3:30pm our time. I will be there by 2:30. See ya there Bro!

It's hard...

For me to communicate to my Tico friends what it means to be a USC allum. Here, there is a soccer game they call El Classico, (The Classic), it is played like 7 or eight times a year. I try to communicate to them what a real CLASSIC is:

Notre Dame - USC
USC - UCLA
Oklahoma - Nebraska

But they do not understand. Maybe this video will help them to understand...

THIS....

Is Tradition...

THIS...

Is the face of a true champion....

A game, played before nearly 100,000 people... Dominating the very best in the sport for decades...

Saturday, USC will face UCLA in the LA classic. They will win and they will go on to face Ohio State in the National Championship game.

Ugly first half, but my Trojans are still in the hunt for the national title.

USC 23, California 9

We will probably be number two or three when the next polls come out.

I am going to go on record now though and say I dont think this will be a National Championship year for U.S.C..

Well...

At least ONE of my teams managed to win one.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - As putrid as the Oakland Raiders were to start the season, they're now at least as good -- or is it bad? -- as the Super Bowl champs.

Chris Carr returned an interception by Ben Roethlisberger 100 yards for a touchdown, Nnamdi Asomugha also took back an interception for a score and the Raiders mounted a late goal-line stand to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-13 Sunday.

After losing five straight games to open the season and spark talk of
possibly going winless, the Raiders have put together consecutive wins for the
first time since October 2005.

"We're not going to go around and stroke our egos or anything like that," defensive tackle Warren Sapp said. "We're still 2-5. We have a long way to go to get ourselves to .500."

But to find an equal, they need only go as far as the Steelers, who lost for the fifth time in six games and are in danger of missing the playoffs after falling three games behind Baltimore in the AFC North. Pittsburgh (2-5) did their best impression of the Raiders by committing four turnovers, four personal fouls and allowing five sacks.

I know some of you....

Have been waiting for me to comment on it....

USC.jpg

There will be no celebrations this week. I have been watching for weeks now as my beloved Trojans stumbled through mediocre victory after mediocre victory. This week was no surprise to me. My only hope is that this loss will wake the boys up.

Thanks to USC's fall, the pivotal game between West Virginia and Louisville will be the first top-five matchup for the rebuilt Big East.

The third-ranked Mountaineers and fifth-ranked Cardinals each moved up a spot in The Associated Press Top 25 on Sunday. The two unbeatens were off last week and play Thursday night in Louisville.

Southern California's 33-31 upset loss to Oregon State on Saturday opened up a spot in the top five. USC dropped from No. 3 to No. 9 after its first regular-season loss since falling 34-31 in triple overtime to California on Sept. 27, 2003. The last time the Trojans were ranked lower in the media poll was after that loss to Cal, when they were 10th.

She is so freaking beautiful, that I was moved to post another picture of her. Hell I don't even know if South Korea has been eliminated or not.

Again.... WHO CARES!

What I want to know is WHO is she.

This woman has got to be a Model or something. The last pictures I posted of her got me linked to by a porno site. Even they had to comment on how sexy she is. So with the big world wide web out there, someone has to know who this beautiful lady is.

Help a fan out, will ya! And let me know if anyone saw her at this year's World Cup!

My Son's Day in the Big "Ligs"

It was a beautiful day in Costa Rica today, and my son made his debut playing goalie for the Heredia branch of the Jr. Liga Football program. The son was shining, but it wasn't too hot, and the Soccer Moms and Dads were out in force. The picture above was taken when we arrived at the stadium and before the people started filling in.

One of the cutest things was watching all the little kids play. This squad was made up of about 25, 5? Year Olds (I am guessing on the age), and it was a hoot watching them converge on the ball like one huge wave. That is, the ones among them who didn't just get distracted and stare off into space, or scan the stands looking for their mothers.

There were also quite a few little girls playing on most of the teams. I cant wait to see Apollonia out there on the field. She is already a huge soccer fan, and roots for her big brother.

In fact one of the first words she learned to speak was, "GOOOOOOOOAL!"

In this sequence you can see her enthusiastically rooting for Jean as he appeared as Goalie.

This picture, (Jean is on the ground) is indicative of the kind of day the kid had today. He team was literally destroyed by the home Team 13-1, and Jean suffered the indignity of having 4 goals scored against him. Which is bad, but not that bad considering the starting goalie had 9 scored on him and literally begged to be taken out at the end of the first half. The poor kid was shell shocked.

My son plays for the Heredia branch of Liga, but the professional team is located in Alajuella, and the team that wiped the floor with my kids team today are from Alajuella, so they were the home team.

They played like it too. It is obvious the kids from Alajuella get a little more attention from the pro team, as they play and practice in Alajuella. Jean's team had horrible defense and poor ball handling, and the kids from Alajuella exploited both weaknesses with impunity.

Jean spent most of his time on the field nearly alone at his end, as
his team mates were generally out hustled, out played and out ran.

I was nevertheless proud of the kid. Putting him in this program was good for him. I think it is teaching him some things about discipline and team play.

I have seen Jean play twice now, and I still think he makes a better forward, than goalie. But he complains that when he is playing forward, that his team mates don't pass the ball enough. That deficiency was obvious today, as one or two players seemed to hog the ball, and it only got worse as they got further behind, and the prima donna's tried to make things happen on their own, instead of settling down and playing a team game.

I had a blast today, even though it meant getting up at 5am to drive to the stadium in Alajuella at 6:15. Sorry I dont have pictures of the "Soccer Moms," Boyd, but the wife was with me, and she got pissed at me looking. I can only imagine how pissed she would have been if I had trained my camera anywhere OFF the field.

End to a long and frustrating day!

Gotta Love Brazillian Soccer Fans

I wonder if she is related to Janet Jackson? Or maybe they have the same wardrobe designer?

I had a chance to go to the World Cup this year, thanks to some of my business connections here. Seeing pictures like that one makes me wonder if I am a little crazy for not going.

Anyway, let me declare right now, now that the Ticos are out of it, and more than likely the U.S. Team will follow shortly...

I am declaring my undying support for Brazil and it's wonderful fans, especially the beautiful female ones. Hehe...

My second vote would have to go to the lovely ladies from Korea, they may not be the best Soccer team, but DAYUM!

I just want to CELEBRATE with her!

Funny, Korea has a huge business presence in Costa Rica, but I don't remember seeing any young women this beautiful from Korea.

I must be eating at the wrong Korean places or something.

She is the BOMB!

Anyway, good luck to all of the second round participants in World Cup play. It is really great to get away from the politics and bad news for a bit and just watch the world come together in the spirit of sportsmanship!

Regardless of who you are rooting for, or WHY? Hehe... Enjoy the games, have a little fun and just remember that Sports is the one area where the world can seem to come together for a bit, and express nationalism in a positive way.

I have not had much time to watch the games this week.... I caught a little of the last Brazil game, while having fish tacos in a bar in Jaco, on the way back from my business seminar in Esterillo.

I can't really watch much of the competition this weekend, because I have to plan for a training I am doing next week. So I will have to catch highlights when I can over the weekend.

I believe Brazil is probably going to end up winning it all. They simply have TOO much talent. But the wonderful thing about Sports at this level, is that anyone can truly win, given a little luck and the right amount of enthusiasm.

And with fans like these... I for ONE would be very enthusiastic!

Costa Rica Out of the Cup!

From ESPN

Ecuador comfortably beat Group A rivals Costa Rica 3-0 to qualify for the second phase of the World Cup for the first time in their history.

Carlos Tenorio opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Agustin Delgado added his team's second shortly after the re-start.Substitute Ivan Kaviedes wrapped up a wonderful afternoon for Ecuador as he struck his team's third in injury time to send their supporters at the Hamburg Arena into raptures.Ecuador, who are competing in their second World Cup finals, dominated the opening half against a toothless Costa Rica, who offered little opposition.Los Ticos did show some signs of revival after the re-start but their attempts to salvage their tournament hopes were shattered with Delgado's 54th-minute goal.

***
A sad ending for the Costa Rican National Team.
I think most Ticos will admit that they had little hopes for this team against all star international competition, but hope lived in the hearts of most, until today's elimination.

I did not see the game. It was on too early here and I had a late night last night, but to La Sele, (Slang for the National Team), I say, hold your heads high. You did your best, represented your country well, and bought gazzillions of dollars of free publicity for the country.

A whole new reason to watch Soccer!

LOL! And forget about the Brazillians...

I don't remember EVER seeing a South Korean who was this smokin' hot.

I am suddenly developing a craving for Kim Chi and Bulgoki!

I have to admit, I am becoming a fan, and not just of the beautiful female fans either. Football, as they call it down here, or to be more correct Futbol, is a fast moving sport, sort of like NBA basketball, without the fights and Bling Bling... Though Ronaldinho has some funky gold Nikes. Hehe...

I am going to at least follow the World Cup through the fate of my beloved Costa Rican Team. Oh to be a single man and have them win the next game... The LOVE and the beers will be flowing, I tell you.

But back to the beautiful lady on the left for a minute. Is she just a fan, or is she a Korean Model. I am Blown away baby. WOW!

I think Brazil will take the Cup again this year, they just have too much damned talent not to.  But if my Ticos or the American Team can't win, I would just as soon see South Korea capture the Cup.

I mean who wouldn't like to see this lovely lady happy?

A whole new Level - Live Blogging the World Cup

Less than 5 minutes into the game, and Germany has already scored. Not looking good for the Ticos. This is a while differen't level of competition to what they are used to. They are however a good team, so once they settle down, I am sure they will play better.
I have never seen a country so fired up about a game.

13 Minutes in and Costa Rica just scored their first Goal! The country just had a collective heart attack!

Update: 18 Minutes in, Germany scores its second goal of the day. Score CR-1 Germany-2

Note: If you are a soccer fan, and own a Palm Powered handheld, this application (Free) is pretty cool. It allows you to follow the world cup action on your palm via wireless connection.

Update: (10:50am Local Time) It's halftime and the score is still 2-1 in favor of Germany.

Update: (11:19 Local Time) Germany scores third goal of the day. Score Germany-3 Costa Rica-1

Update: (11:31 Local Time) Got to be proud of my little adopted country! Costa Rica just scored their second goal. Score Germany-3 Costa Rica-2

Update: (11:45 Local Time) Germany scores again and with only four minutes to go, it looks bad for the Ticos. Score Germany-4 Costa Rica-2

Well they gave it thier best shot and in my opinion played a gutsy game. Final score Costa Rica-2 Germany-4. Nothing to be ashamed of.

De La Hoya gets some payback!

De_La_Hoya.jpg
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The Golden Boy still has the luster.

Oscar De La Hoya made an impressive return to the ring after a 20-month absence, emphatically stopping Ricardo Mayorga in the sixth round to claim the WBC's 154-pound title on Saturday night.

Showing no signs of rust or reluctance, the 33-year-old De La Hoya was a whirlwind in what he claims will be the penultimate fight of his storied career, which includes an Olympic gold medal, titles in six weight classes and a promotions company in his business empire.

De La Hoya (38-4, 30 KOs) clearly hadn't lost his passion for the ring since Bernard Hopkins stopped him in the ninth round with a devastating body punch in September 2004. He overwhelmed the wild-punching Mayorga with clinical right hands and a handful of devastating left hooks, stalking him around the ring and controlling nearly every moment of the fight.

He sent Mayorga to the canvas just 60 seconds in, artfully ducking a wild punch and responding with a strong right and a brutal left hook. The crowd stood, and De La Hoya cast a disdainful glance over his shoulder as he walked to the neutral corner.

The fight got no better for Mayorga (27-6-1), with De La Hoya's tactical precision and surprising power taking a quick toll.

De La Hoya knocked him down again in the sixth, and a glassy-eyed Mayorga stayed on his wobbly feet before finally going down at 1:25 of the sixth. De La Hoya also went to the canvas when referee Jay Nady pushed him away from his fallen opponent, but he sprung up to leap onto the rings in triumph.

--
I watched the fight here in Costa Rica, and despite Mayorga being a Nicaraugan, and basing most of his fight career out of Costa Rica, De La Hoya was clearly the favorite. Mayorga lost a lot of respect among latinos by insulting De La Hoya's wife and making other rude comments in the lead up to the fight. Apparently this was a strategy on his part to piss off De La Hoya. It was a BAAAAD strategy. De La Hoya was professional and classy from the start to finish, hugging Mayorga at the end of the fight. He was clearly in control the entire fight, flooring Mayorga once in the first round and often seeming to shake him. Mayorga tried to play the macho game in the fifth round, taunting De La Hoya and pretending as if his punishing blows were having no effect. Clearly they were, and the lesser man had his head handed to him. Good deal...

Lord I love Figure Skating

2005_11_5_hb022.jpgAnd I think this woman has got to be one of the most beautiful and sexy athletes out there.

A heartfelt Congratulations to Shizuka Arakawa, and Japan on their Olympic Gold Medal victory in figure skating.

Crooks and Liars has the video of the medal winning performance, and quite the performance it was!

"NBC: Shizuka Arakawa skated off with Japan's first medal of these Olympics a gold in the showcase event. What a way to end a shutoutArakawa did it with an elegance and technical brilliance that even had two-time Olympic winner Katarina Witt standing and applauding before the Japanese skater was done. Cohen, who fell on her first jump and stumbled badly on the second, finished with silver; Slutskaya fell once and took bronze."

Personally I think figure skating and ice dancing are about the only thing that warrants me breaking out the popcorn.

Final Thoughts on Super Bowl

Congrats to Pittsburgh, who did what it took to win. Seatle will be back, they are a great team who played a great game, but simply made too many mistakes and had too many calls go against them to win, despite dominating much of the game.

I am at the Colonial Sports Book in downtown San Jose.
Seatle won the the toss and Pittsburghs defense quickly shut them down.
I bet on the over of 461/2 points. Pittsburgh has the ball... Quick penalty and then a no gain on Second and 15. One yard on the screen play. Another false start... 3rd and 20...
Three and out and Pittsburgh looks nervous.

Another Bush Landslide...

Only this time there were no dirty politics, or suggestions of a fix being in... This Bush simply ran away from the competition the way he has all year...

NEW YORK -- Reggie Bush left the competition behind -- as usual.

Southern California's incomparable tailback won the Heisman Trophy as college football's best player Saturday night over Texas quarterback Vince Young and USC quarterback Matt Leinart, last year's winner.

Flashing uncanny acceleration and ability to change direction, Bush has conjured up memories of Gale Sayers, drawn comparisons to Marshall Faulk, Barry Sanders and Tony Dorsett, and is the favorite to be the No. 1 pick in April's NFL draft.

"Oh man, this is amazing," Bush said, with a row of former winners lining the stage behind him. "It's truly an honor to be elected to this fraternity. I've been in college for three years and it's the first time I've been invited into a fraternity."

Bush received 2,541 points to finish 933 points ahead of Young, with Leinart a distant third.

The 784 first-place votes received by Bush was the second-most in Heisman history, topped only by USC's O.J. Simpson, who had 855 in 1968. Bush was first in all six regions and appeared on 99 percent of the ballots, also a Heisman record.

Bush and Leinart will be the first Heisman winners to play in a college game together when USC goes for a third straight national title against Texas in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4.

I would say that Texas is in for a LONG day come Rose Bowl time...

Like I said to the folks watching last weeks clash with Notre Dame, it aint over till it's over, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't just a tad worried about SC's upcoming schedule, especially the MONSTER that has grown up right next door!

I also have little doubt...

That come January.... These Monsters will be waiting somewhere in America to challenge 'SC to a good old barroom brawl of a Football game.

So I am going to get my bet in now with my Pard from Tejas... Boyd, how about we bet lets say a case of your favorite Texas BBQ against a case of Cacique, the best Hooch in Costa Rica, on the outcome of that eventual clash?

The Classic!

Here in Costa Rica, they call the two or three (or four) times a year, that La Liga and Saprissa, (The two most popular soccer teams in Costa Rica) play; "El Classico." The Classic....

I have tried to explain to my Costa Rican friends that two teams who play several times a year, do not make, "A Classic". I invited my best Tico friend to watch yesterday's USC/Notre Dame game. The game lived up to the hype.

apcacunrr_usc_notre_dame_1ac27-lg.jpg

I watched the game at the Colonial, one of Costa Rica's big sports books, with about 100 mostly americans. I was surrounded by Notre Dame fans, which made the last few minutes of the game rather tense.

It looked shaky up until the final seconds, but the Trojans are champions, and in the end they played like it. There were the Green Jerseys, the screaming fans, and the mystical traditions of Notre Dame to deal with. There was also adversity, dropped balls, penalties and questionable calls, but the cool confidence of a championship team won out in the end....

The way they played yesterday, I have no doubt that my beloved Trojans are on the way to another National Title.

Trojans whup Razorbacks!

Can you say, back to back Championships?

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Matt Leinart , Reggie Bush & Co. hit Arkansas with a first quarter the Razorbacks won't soon forget.

And that was just the beginning.

Leinart passed for 381 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another TD in less than three quarters, Bush scored the first two times he touched the ball, and No. 1 Southern California routed the Razorbacks 70-17 Saturday night, rolling up 736 yards in total offense.

"I guess they just didn't have the answers for us today," Bush said in a major understatement after the Trojans reached the 70-point plateau for the first time in nearly 35 years.

The win was the 24th straight for USC - one shy of the school and Pac-10 record and the longest active winning streak in the country. Playing their home opener before an ecstatic crowd of 90,411 at the Los Angeles Coliseum, the Trojans (2-0) won their 22nd consecutive home game.
