Disgraceful

It turns out that yesterday's story on alleged Army Ranger attrocities WAS a fraud. And the people who put it together should be ashamed. The so called soldier should be prosecuted, and those who exposed the fraud

congradulated.

Looks pretty official to me!  The guy has no service record says the US Army spokesperson (h/t: LGF):

Initial research by the U.S. Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg shows no Soldier with the name of Jesse Macbeth having ever been assigned to the Special Forces or the Army Rangers -- which are, in fact, two separate disciplines. This appears to be some sort of hoax. No Soldier by that name at Fort Lewis to our knowledge, in the past, either. Of course, the line about "go into the Army or go to jail" is vintage TV script not heard since the 1960s. There are also numerous wear and appearance issues with the Soldier's uniform -- a mix of foreign uniforms with the sleeves rolled up like a Marine and a badly floppy tan beret worn like a pastry chef. Of course, the allegations of war crimes are vague, as are the awards the Soldier allegedly received.

Well of course he doesn't.  I just want to meet five people in the entire world who could've actually bought this load of crap!  I highly doubt the person responsible for posting the video sought out any confirmation.  At least it was good for a laugh.

Like I said yesterday. I am against the war, with the caveat that I think we need to stay and finish what we started. We can not leave Iraq in a state of Civil War. That the war was poorly executed should be obvious to anyone with a speckle of logic. That there have been attrocities like Abu Ghraib, likewise are historical fact. When anyone in the anti war movement stoops to producing outright lies in order to make an anti war statement, it stains the work of all of those in the movement who believe in truth. I am glad that I did not see a bunch of Left Wing blogs jumping on this issue yesterday. We, (including myself), have at times been too eager to jump on such stories and it has hurt our credibility...

It seems like you have a very measured blog here. While I agree that many mistakes have been made in this war, I was for it in the beginning and continue to lend my support. I just felt there were enough lines drawn in the sand that Saddam thumbed his nose at...and no matter what, we weren't going to get France, Russia, and Germany on board (too much to lose monetarily).

Lord only knows how many tactical errors killed untold thousands in WWII. Every war will have mistakes; but we adapt, we transform, we progress, and we overcome. I belive history will prove us right in Iraq, and millions of Iraqis will be thanking us while mourning the brave soldiers (Iraqi and Coalition) who made it possible.

But, I respect the anti-war side as well. As long as someone's position is thought-out and not a diatribe of the same tired talking points, I'm all ears. You seem to run a blog free of ridiculous bomb-throwing (though I'm sure in some posts you've thrown a few-and I have too). Right or left, a measured debate is healthy for all.

Maybe one day you'll come around philosophically...

:)

Thanks, dont think I will be coming around, hehe... But I appreciate the compliments on the Blog. We try to keep it real here. And my opinions range across the political spectrum.

Maybe I'm just ignorant to this situation because, at this point, I've never heard of Jessie Macbeth and I also don't spend enough time blogging anymore... But I just went to dKos, Washington Monthly, Atrios, and Crooks and Liars. I searched all of those pages for the word "macbeth" and not a single one had the word on there. So I'm going to assume that these blogs, the biggest on the left, didn't talk about Macbeth unless they chose not to mention him by name.

So I'm wondering... Who on the left publicized this video? Because it certainly, as far as I can tell, wasn't latched onto by most of the left as more evidence for a case to be made against the Iraq war.

One thing that rightwing bloggers like to do is latch onto liars who have no support and make it look like they are representatives of the left. Best example I can think of right now is Ward Churchill, a man that nobody on the left gave a shit about, but then when the right bukkaked over his comments concerning 9/11, we were all told that Ward Churchill is a representative of the left. But that wasn't true.

I'm wondering if this is the case with Jessie Macbeth. Like I said, I may be too ignorant of this situation to form an solid opinion, but given the past history of the smear campaigns of rightwing bloggers...
