Costa Rica Fact #1001

According to a recent report on Repretel 7 pm edition News, as many as 80% of Costa Ricans have been guilty of infidelity at one time or another.

Now think about it. Costa Rica is full of beautiful women, like the gorgeous Veronica pictured on the left... If the infidelity rate of the country is 80%, that means despite the fact that Veronica probably has a boyfriend...

YOU STILL HAVE A CHANCE! LOL!

Dayum!

Anyway, I am finding it hard to get my head around the whole idea of 80% of the people being cheaters. As I said to a friend the other day, I think living in a country with a Macho culture, there is some winking and shrugging at the idea of infidelity.

Years ago when I was dating several women here, and decided to get married. I told one of my other girlfriends that I would have to call off our relationship, as I had decided to marry. She seemed shocked.

I will never forget her words to me on the occasion, "What does you getting married have to do with us having a good time?" I also remember my future wife giving me a lecture that went something along these lines... "You are a man, and therefore a dog. I know you will cheat... All men do. Just do me a favor and be discreet about it. Don't take the "bitch" to the same places as you take me, and don't be seen by any of our friends with her..."

To say I was shocked, is an understatement. Of course, women never mean these things. But I found that there is a lot more of that spirit in the culture here, than I imagined, and the Repretel interview kind of confirms it. But I still don't believe it is 80%...

So, does that mean that if I'm not cheating, I don't have much of a chance with the Ticas?

Heh.

Hehe, I think it means the opposite.

Boo. I don't like this statistic.

However, I have to believe that your wife's attitude--if it is indicative of tica attitude--may help keep the statistic high. Hehe... didn't McGregor say that high expectations lead to high performance and low expectations to low performance? Same goes here: if you EXPECT someone to cheat and even ALLOW them to cheat, then they will be more inclined to cheat. On the other hand, if someone knows that cheating is in absolutely no way accpetable and that the consequences will be DIRE, then the liklihood of a "cheap f**k" or whatever will be lower.

I expect to not be cheated on, and this is definitely one aspect of CR culture that I will not be picking up on. ;-)
