Two thoughts on Cynthia McKinney
1. She is ridiculous, and should be prosecuted like anyone else striking a police officer. 2. If conservatives are so damned law and order, why arent they clammoring for Delay and others to go to jail. I am sorry, but this is nothing more than hypocrisy. Hell, the people at Wizbang have spent the last year defending the outting of a CIA agent, and they have spent the last week reporting breathlessly on this crap every day... Here let me HELP, if Cynthia McKinney is guilty of striking a police officer, she should go to jail! Now lets scrutinize that list of Republican criminals, shall we? Sure! We'll start with Congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI), who got impatient with airport security and shoved the security guard (an older black woman) out of his way at LAX on March 26, 2000. Admittedly, this was pre-9/11, but it was still outrageous. In Delay's case, there is considerable ambiguity about whether or not what he did was a crime. It doesn't help that the prosecutor has a track record of going after his political enemies (Republicans and Democrats who got in his way) and had to go through several grand juries to finally win an indictment. Nor does it help that the nature of the accusation is exceptionally technical. In McKinney's case, it's very, very hard to conceive of a circumstance when it's OK to hit a cop for doing exactly what he's supposed to do. Toss in the "do you know who I am? I'm far too important to be bothered to follow the rules for everyone else" attitude, and the McKinney case is (if you'll pardon the expression) black and white: she was blatantly, flagrantly in the wrong, and is throwing up excuse after excuse how she was the victim here when it is obvious she was the aggressor. Mind you, IF Delay is guilty AND convicted, I have no problem seeing him do time. BUT his case seems to boil down to "how many angels can dance on the head of a pin" argument, and in at least one case the indictment was flagrantly unconstitutional -- it accused him of breaking a law a year before it went into effect, and was tossed out. The Delay charges tend to provoke a MEGO (My Eyes Glaze Over) response in most people -- it's all about accounting, and bookkeeping is boring. But everyone has seen "Cops." You mess with a police officer, you're going DOWN. J. Posted by: Jay Tea at April 6, 2006 03:23 AM Nice arguments Jay, but hypocritical. You say there is some ambiguity about DeLays actions, fair enough, in our Country, all are innocent until proven guilty, UNLESS they are a Black, Moonbat Democrat, RIGHT? Becuase Priestly has all but convicted McKinney? Posted by: David Anderson at April 7, 2006 08:55 AM OK, David, how about just her own public statements? She was deliberately in violation of the rules, not wearing her ID pin or any other form of ID, and ignored the police officer who was doing EXACTLY WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING when he stopped her. When she refused to stop, he was justified in grabbing her. And her defense: a blend of "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?" and the race card. Those are just the facts that she has already agreed to. She's a paranoid, anti-Semitic whackjob. The fact that she's a black woman and a Democrat is irrelevant. J. Posted by: Jay Tea at April 8, 2006 05:44 PM One more thing, David: FOUR grand juries were convened to go after DeLay. Two refused to indict and the third had to violate the Constitution ("no ex post facto laws") to indict him. To put a spin on an old phrase, if someone keeps insisting he smells smoke, perhaps he's the arsonist. Or "he who smelt it, dealt it." J. Posted by: Jay Tea at April 8, 2006 06:06 PM You would not think it was "irrelevant," based on the posts and comments on Wizbang. Posted by: David Anderson at April 8, 2006 06:24 PM I did exactly one posting on McKinney, David, and that was only after her disgraceful "apology." As for the rest, I shouldn't have to remind you that I am only responsible for my own words. Other postings, comments, and the like are strictly the responsibility of their authors. J. Posted by: Jay Tea at April 8, 2006 07:52 PM I never really gave a hoot about Tommy The Hammer. Hardly any Members of Congress interest me. I only talk about them when they do something exceptionally asshatted -- like McKinney did. J. Posted by: Jay Tea at April 8, 2006 07:56 PM As a constituent of Dekalb County (where Cynthia McKinney SERVES), a proud black businesswoman, and registered Democrat, I would have to apologize for having McKinney REPRESENT our area. She is not an indicative representation of our district but unfortunately good at bating people to vote for her through hate and fear. I believe that Hank Johnson will be a better representative and hope for his election. Posted by: Kay at August 8, 2006 07:53 AM Post a comment
