I dont think...
Any commentary is necessary on this one: "Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff has testified that President Bush authorized him to disclose the contents of a highly classified intelligence assessment to the media to defend the Bush administration's decision to go to war with Iraq, according to papers filed in federal court on Wednesday by Patrick J. Fitzgerald, the special prosecutor in the CIA leak case...read on" I mean, most of us "rational thinkers," suspected this from the begining. The "We just don't KNOW," defense is already cropping up on Right Wing sites. About the only thing we, "dont know," at this point, is why Bush did not admit this a long time ago. I am just sitting here scratching my head, wondering why these people simply dont get it. Posted by David A at April 6, 2006 05:10 PM

About the only thing we, "dont know," at this point, is why Bush did not admit this a long time ago. Well, something I don't know is just what it is you think Bush ought to admit. There has been some confusion about misleading headlines, but what we learned today is that Bush was involved in "leaking" (strictly speaking, declassifying) the National Intelligence Estimate. To the extent we learned anything at all about Bush's involvement in the Plame leak (which was a different leak), it is that he was unaware of Libby's role in that. From p. 27 of the filing: During this time, while the President was unaware of the role that the Vice President’s Chief of Staff and National Security Adviser [i.e., Libby, who had both jobs] had in fact played in disclosing Ms. Wilson’s CIA employment, defendant implored White House officials to have a public statement issued exonerating him. Posted by: Tom Maguire at April 6, 2006 10:39 PM Well gee Tom, I dont know. But I seem to recall Bush dissavowing all knowledge of the Leak, and claiming he would make sure all information related to it came out. So what happened to, "Well I authorized the release of the information..." Posted by: David Scott Anderson So your view is that when folks were screaming about the leak of Plame's CIA connection, the outing of a CIA agent, and Bob Novak's irresponsible behavior, they really were concerned about leaks about the National Intelligence Estimate that preceded by a week its partial de-classification? I'm surprised it took us three years to clear that up. Posted by: Tom Maguire at April 7, 2006 12:08 AM No, my view is that people on the Right should stop excusing the behavior of this administration and stop parsing words and situations to try and excuse it. And the only thing I am surprised at, constantly surprised at, is that you guys can always come up with justification. Posted by: David Anderson at April 7, 2006 08:50 AM Post a comment
