The Kwanzaa Debate

I dont get the Right Wing facination with Kwanzaa? I mean Preston is a guy who I hardly ever agree with, but I respect him. That Ambra and LaShawn attack Kwanzaa is more of a mystery to me, well not really LaShawn... I mean she is always working on her conservative/Christian Bonafides... I don't celebrate Kwanzaa myself. Never have. But I dont dissagree with it's priciples at all.

Cobb has done an incredible job of explaining Kwanzaa and defending it. Perhaps if people took a little more time to actually understand the celebration, perhaps they would have less of a problem with it. What I find ironic is that Conservatives, especially Black Conservatives like LaShawn are always admonishing blacks to practice self reliance and dignity, and a holiday that celebrates those very attributes is condemned... Go figure...

Might I suggest that Preston and others read Cobbs posts, before ranting about something they clearly dont understand.

I don't need the holiday to remind me of the principles that Kwanzaa stands for. It would seem to me, that people who are always telling blacks to be proud and to stand up for themselves, would see the same principles as having value.

LaShawn merely outlined its history and connection to the SLA. I don't have any problem with any celebration, unless it includes the taking of lives without cause. How about some of the religious celebrations in Haiti involving the killing of animals? For maybe a more balanced history of Kwanzaa look at:
