What kind of America have we become....
When this debate is even necessary? WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 - The Bush administration is embroiled in a sharp internal debate over whether a new set of Defense Department standards for handling terror suspects should adopt language from the Geneva Conventions prohibiting "cruel," "humiliating" and "degrading" treatment, administration officials say. Simple question... WHY? Why is this debate even going on? Posted by David A at November 2, 2005 07:30 PM

Because we ain't dealing with frigging boy scouts, David. No torture? OK. But unpleasant measures that fall short of it? I got no problems with "humiliating" and "degrading," and can even sign on to certain levels of "cruel," if it means saving innocent lives. We aren't fighting people that follow the Geneva Convention, or any other rules of civilized behavior. If we handcuff ourselves as far as you seem to endorse, we are pretty much doomed. I got problems with that. J. Posted by: Jay Tea at November 3, 2005 06:17 AM Okay Jay, but do you not feel that at least there should be congressional oversight? (And not just GOP oversight)? And I assume that you feel based on your comments that the means justify the ends, so if some innocents are abused its okay, as long as it keeps us safe?
