The Bush T-shirt Slogan is courtesy of the incomparable Heretik. , , , , .

I'm watching the news (MSNBC) right now and Bush is catapulting the propaganda at a Luncheon for the Joint Armed Forces Officers' Wives Club...

So, you're saying that shortly after we pull out from Iraq, Assad will slaughter millions of his own people? I don't quite follow your logic here...

If you are unfamiliar with the Black Sabbath song, "War Pigs", google for the lyrics...
If you are unfamiliar with the movie "Wag The Dog", then google it or watch it....
If you are unfamiliar with Nixon's bombing of Cambodia, then google it...

Maybe my Arabic is a little rusty. Maybe Iran is Arabic for Cambodia....

Zen, I don't need to watch "Wag The Dog" again. I read the novel it was based on YEARS before the movie came out, and it scared the crap out of me -- the most extensively footnoted "work of fiction" I've ever read, and the fact that someone bought the rights to it and produced something so far from the book almost drives me to DU-levels of conspiracy theories.

So, what I think of when I think of Cambodia is the Khmer Rouge, once (and in many ways still) the darling of the Left, killing millions of its own citizens in their insane drive for totalitarian control and establishing their own "Workers' Paradise." And are you saying that Syria isn't a source of terrorism? Hamas, IJ, and several other terrorist groups have offices in Damascus, even listed in the local phone books. Even the UN is forced to admit they assassinated Hariri in an attempt to keep their chokehold on Lebanon.

I realize that a huge chunk of the Left views the 60's and the Vietnam War as their moment of glory, but not EVERYTHING is a parallel to that. In fact, almost NOTHING is a parallel to that. And one of the reasons the Left keeps failing is their insistence on casting everything on to that model, like Procrustes' bed, and trying to force it to fit -- no matter what extremes they have to go to.

Oops, I might have just stumbled over yet another posting for Wizbang... thanks, Zen. Even though I'm quite sure you didn't intend it.

Jay,I think those same thoughts when I think of Cambodia. I don't know anybody that considers the Khmer Rouge as "darling". You apparently "know", so who are they? Just curious....After you've done doing your thinking about the Khmer Rouge and Cambodia, though, is there no room in your mind for thoughts on Nixon's Bombing of Cambodia? I'm not saying that Syria doesn't have terrorists. I'm saying, why is Bush pursuing it AT THIS TIME. Pakistan has terrorists, too, but what have we done about it?

Zen, the first that comes to mind would be Noam Chomsky, who wrote an entire BOOK about how the Khmer Rouge was a noble reaction to imperialism, how the genocide never happened, and how it was all Western Imperialist propaganda to keep the natives oppressed. See here:

You'll recall that Chomsky was recently voted "one of the smartest people in the world" and ought to be running things, and is STILL considered one of the leading intellectuals of the left...

Was Reagan hanging out with Chomsky? Pol Pot certainly wasn't a blip or a hiccup....

Posted by: zencomix at October 28, 2005 12:49 PM

OK, Zen, I'm conceding this field to you. I got lost about four lurches from reality ago. What the hell does REAGAN have to do with any of this? I thought this was about Bush and Iraq of today vs. southeast Asia of 30 years ago...

I gotta remember that it's almost always a mistake to bring logic to bear around these parts.

Well Jay, Reagan has as much to do with it as Noam Chomsky and the Khmer Rouge. The cartoon was refering to Nixon's bombing of Cambodia, as I noted earlier, but you avoided that part, didn't you? It's all about the secrets and the marketing...wake up and smell the coffee!
