Shhhh. Be vewy, vewy qwieyut.
They're hunting wabbits: Investigators appointed by the Vatican have been instructed to review each of the 229 Roman Catholic seminaries in the United States for "evidence of homosexuality" and for faculty members who dissent from church teaching, according to a document prepared to guide the process. In the spirit of fairness, I hope the Vatican's investigators will also be checking for evidence of eating the wrong kind of food as well. I wonder how many faculty members will be burned at the stake for eating bacon? For some reason, this reminds me of the line in Star Wars where Princess Leia tells Governor Tark: "The more you tighten your grip Tark, the more star systems will slip through your fingers". Chalk up another reason to be a Deist. (h/t: Bitch PhD and crossed at the home of my regular bloggy goodness: Preemptive Karma) Posted by Carla at September 15, 2005 06:28 PM

Bacon? I was raised in a catholic household which loved its bacon. My mom always told me that it was just the jews and muslims who were forbidden to eat swine. And now that I'm an agnostic who has no interest in learning much about regligous minutae, I'm going to have to defer to her judgement and scrattch my head here, David. :) Posted by: tas at September 15, 2005 06:40 PM tas: The Bible says not to eat bacon. Are you telling me those Catholics are picking and choosing which God laws to follow? :) Posted by: carla at September 15, 2005 10:12 PM Actually, God told the Jews not to eat swine (Lev 11:7-8). That was when they were under the Mosiac Law. Once Jesus came and fulfilled the law, you could eat swine. Jews, of course, not believing in Jesus still don't eat swine because they believe they are still under Mosiac Law. The Bible is best read in context at all times. Lots of misunderstandings occur if you just grab a passage here and there and don't bother to read the rest of it. Posted by: Rogue at September 16, 2005 12:52 PM Post a comment
