Politicizing Hurricane Katrina

There have been numerous suggestions throughout the internet that "now is not the time" for punditry or political posts concerning Hurricane Katrina, there'll be plenty of time later, and all efforts should be aimed at helping the victims. There have also been numerous posts about how now IS the time to be asking questions and calling people out on what happened and what didn't happen. I think it is safe to say that when George Bush stages photo ops with fake relief stations and helicopters backdrops, it is past time to start addressing all the political bullshit that contributed to the disaster. Let's see if the Mainstream Media starts asking questions about the Homeland Security Department that awarded a half a million dollars to a private firm to help draw up emergency plans for the Gulf region...

Tom Delay's district is Houston, which has taken more Katrina refugees than any city in the country.

Yes, and how much of that effort to get them there was lead by the Republican leader? God bless Tom Delay....now, care to also comment on the link in the last part of the post?

Why move on to other parts of your post when you start it out with so much misdirection and misinformation?

Yeah, Texas is huge. There's a lot of room out between Monahans, Ft Stockton, Pecos and so forth. But I don't think you'd really want to send the evacuees there, do you? I certainly don't, and I don't think the evacuees themselves would like it too much. Add that to the Commissar's point, and you're starting to look like you're grasping at straws, trying to find anything that you can throw at one of the Republicans you so love to hate.

Why don't you send your invective towards those who really dropped the ball? The ones whose job it was to protect the people of southeast Louisiana? The ones who stood around with their hands in their pockets, waiting for the federal government to pick up the pieces when they failed so miserably at their primary jobs? When will you spit nails at the most deserving of your barbs, Nagin and Blanco?

Oh yeah, that's right. They're liberal Democrats. They can do no wrong. And of course...IT'S BUSH'S FAULT!!!!! (insert deranged Dean-scream here)

Misdirection and misinformation? Is misinformation anything like disinformation? Is Texas not fucking huge? No? Ok, so that part can't be wrong. Did the Texas Governor say that they weren't going to be taking any more victims because they were running out of room? He did say that. Ok, so that part can't be wrong. I called Tom Delay "a champion of the poor, pillar of moral values and fine Christian man"...well, ok, you caught me spreading misinformation there...

I imagine there's a bit of fear that all those poor liberals are going to stay put in Houston. Let's see Tom gerrymander his way around that.

Nagin, Blanco, and other local officials certainly share some of the blame for things that initially went wrong, but I imagine if they had the resources available to them that the Federal government oficials had, you know, the Feds that either stood around with their hands in their pockets jingling change, or the ones who stood around with their hands on guns waiting for the officials with their hands in their pockets, jingling the change....

If I did a whole new post with the above link , you'd probably avoid commenting on it there, too, because IT"S NOT BUSH"S FAULT! (insert bush apologist chuckling as he watches download of Young College Republican in a "Dean Scream Imitation Contest")

Boy, you can really ignore what you don't like, can't you. Pull out a freakin' map and look at the area I mentioned. I only picked that one out because I grew up on the eastern edge of that region.

Yeah, we've got a lot of room in Texas. I'm sure displaced New Orleansans (okay, I've got no clue what to call (former) residents of New Orleans...Big Easians?) would love to set up residence in some farmer's cotton field in the panhandle. Or the desert of west Texas.

Keep up the mantra. It'll take you a long way.

And I'll check out your other post to see if it inspires me to respond. Just because I don't respond to a post doesn't mean I can't dispute it. I don't have time to respond to all liberal claims, even all of them here on David's blog.

And Nagin and Blanco share some of the blame? They never implemented their own plans already drawn up for this disaster. Blanco certainly failed miserably in supporting New Orleans, but Nagin hasn't done anything but try to make anyone and everyone else look bad.

I speculate that the best thing that could ever happen to these unfortunate folks is getting spread around the country. The odds are pretty high that they'll be in communities with better political leadership. Even those folks that got shipped of to DC, believe it or not.

Actually the federal government is to blame. The administration is to blame. The local city officials are to blame. The state reps are to blame. The citizens are to blame ... and not just the citizens of New Orleans and Biloxi. We all should be prepared for any disaster that hits our country ... whether it be earthquake, tornado, hurricane, or terrorist attack. We have agencies whose specific job it is to deal with such things. We should have funds available for such disasters. People on the ready to move in immediately once such a disaster hits. We should have well thought out plans on how to deal with these kinds of things.

We have proven that we are nowhere near as prepared as we assumed we were. Partisanship be damned. This is not a partisan issue! It shouldn't matter if someone is Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Liberal, Conservative, Christian, Pagan, Black, White, or even Green! All this partisan bickering is disgusting, in my not so humble opinion.

If y'all spent half as much time helping these people as you do fighting over whose fault it is, then you could say you really accomplished something. Unfortunately, your politics is overshadowing your humanity and someone needs to smack all of you upside your heads.

And, that is directed to EVERYONE that has participated in this assinine blame game y'all have going on.
