Some thoughts on a blogging friend...
Stephen is someone on the Right whom I have always respected, even though we disagree on most things political. He is someone who has reached out to me on more than one occasion to work together and inject some calm and bipartisanship in the partisan warfare that is the blogsphere, and I respect him for it. I have no doubt benefited much more from our relationship than he has. He has given me lots of exposure and even opened channels of communication with other Right leaning bloggers. I have watched him grow tired of some of the extremism on the Right side of the Blogsphere, and seen his efforts to "take back," his party. All of these things I respect. Today he wrote a powerful piece that I think a lot of us should read... When I noticed Paul at Woozebang, pushing his Creationist nonsense ("Evolution Nazis Don't Let Kids Think"), I joined the debate. The post is not likely to change many minds on the Right, and it more than likely just continued to isolate him from his former pals, but it showed balls. And it showed something I have believed all along... That the Commissar is no hack. He is a person who believes firmly in his ideals and principals, and however much I may disagree with some of them, I respect the hell out of him. Posted by David A at June 23, 2005 03:20 PM

You're too easy, David. You're a businessman. Do you reward your employees for doing their job? Probably not. You reward them when they've done something over and above the call of duty; when they've excelled beyond expectations. Let's face it; the GOP espouses ideas that are clearly fraudulent, scientifically. They pander to those groups who want to teach creationism in schools and they appoint lobbyists to edit and revise scientific findings. They're ignoring potentially huge medical advancements because of the Xtian fundies. Well, folks like the Commissar bought the whole package and until he renounces the GOP, he gets to wear the extremism as his own personal albatross. Posted by: Jadegold at June 23, 2005 04:03 PM Whatever JG. I just have one question. Are you black? Posted by: David at June 23, 2005 04:20 PM Thank you, David. This post is a compliment of the highest order. It means a great deal. Ya know, WE (you and me) are not crazy. The nutjobs of the Extreme-o-sphere (L) and the Extreme-o-sphere (R) are the ones who are crazy. Posted by: Commissar at June 23, 2005 04:36 PM Stephen, meant every word. Posted by: David at June 23, 2005 04:42 PM David, be friends with who you want to be. There is nothing wrong with it. And, believe it or not, there is nothing wrong with the fact that some of your friends (and mine) are Republicans. There is something to be said about us normal folk that don't go to extremes and act like we are at war with people just because we happen to support a different political party than they do. It isn't an "either/or" situation. The people, on both sides, who think it is really, really need to get a serious grip. Posted by: Rogue at June 23, 2005 05:11 PM Thanks Angel, You know by know that I just ignore JG. Posted by: David at June 23, 2005 05:21 PM Thanks Angel, You know by now that I just ignore JG. Posted by: David at June 23, 2005 05:22 PM Good thing Rogue picks your friends for you, David. Who knows? You might accidently befriend one of those criminal, STD-laden Hispanics Rogue keeps her eye on. Posted by: Jadegold at June 23, 2005 06:35 PM You never answered my question about whether you are black or not? Posted by: David at June 23, 2005 06:52 PM Does it make a difference, David? If I am--can I be SoS? I really want to visit Australia; it's one of the few places I haven't been. Look, David, the issue isn't 'us against them' so much as there's a great pretense these folks are shocked ("thunderstruck") when the fundies have come out of the woodwork to demand textbooks have stickers on them. When they use a brain-dead woman to try and score political points. Honestly, it's like walking down a dark alley in Buenaventura at 2AM with pesos hanging out of your pocket and being surprised to be held up. Posted by: Jadegold at June 23, 2005 07:12 PM I would like to know. You are the mysterious one, no one knows if you are male or female, black or white. I want to know. Because you had some things to say today in a previous post that I want to address if you are not. Posted by: David at June 23, 2005 07:27 PM It's not important; if you have something to say about a post of mine--by all means, fire away. Posted by: Jadegold at June 23, 2005 07:35 PM Yes it is important... Becuase in that comment you spoke of tokenism like you know all about it. I would like to understand your perspective. Are you black, or are you another white liberal who is just as bad as the worst elements of the GOP in deciding what is good for Black folks. Posted by: David at June 23, 2005 07:40 PM I don't pick his friends, JG ... I don't even try and we are friends. Unlike you. And, the last time I checked, I don't keep up with criminals or those with STDs. I also don't go around and attack my fellow Democrats, disrespect other people's blogs, or act like a total ass everywhere I go either. Unlike you. Posted by: Rogue at June 23, 2005 07:43 PM You're not a Dem, Rogue. David, you should write up a thread on tokenism; what you 'think' it is and the rules associated with the term. I'll even add a discussion point: is it enough for blacks to get appointed to high-profile/-stature positions where their power/responsibility/influence is limited? In the other thread, you seemed to think it was. Posted by: Jadegold at June 23, 2005 08:31 PM Wow. I come from a long line of Democrats. I raise money for the DNC. I am active locally. I was involved in the Take 5 campaign. I walk around all over town during elections, handing out flyers, and talking to citizens ... encouraging them to vote and vote Democrat. But, I am not a Democrat? And, Republicans say I am not a Christian because I am a Democrat. It is a good thing that you nor the Republicans get to decide who I am and what I support. Posted by: Rogue at June 23, 2005 09:14 PM So now JG gets to tell other people what political party they belong to? Interesting. Posted by: Answerman at June 24, 2005 10:43 AM Don't be obtuse, A-Man. People can identify themselves as anything they please. But self-identification is meaningless if one consistently militates against the principles of that identification. Case in point: Zell Miller. Posted by: Jadegold at June 24, 2005 10:58 AM Sure, if you're dense enough to believe that identification with a political party necessitates some sort of unbending adherence to a particular ideology. Fortunately, politics in most republics hasn't worked that way until recently. Rabid ideologues like JG probably wouldn't have liked the days when liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats exercised moderating influences on the political process and reduced high-pitch partisanship, but I for one think the ideological purification of the two parties is a big contributor to what is clearly the beginning of a serious, troubling breakdown in our political system. Posted by: Answerman at June 24, 2005 11:03 AM True that, Answerman. I can tell you this, though. Even though every generation of my family has been Democrats, the day the extreme left run it will be the day I will go Independent. Which, of course, is the same thing I think Republicans should have done when the Religious Right came into power. :) Posted by: Rogue at June 24, 2005 11:58 AM Post a comment
