First guess is a figment of your imagination. The closest tie I can find by Googling Reagan and the Birchers is a claim that Robert Welch personally congratulated Reagan when he was elected Governor of California.

And the Birchers are kooks, but I can find no record of them lynching anybody, or anything remotely comparable to the crimes of the Klan.

Nice try, though.
