Introduction to In Search of Utopia

The Search…

Is a search of discovery. When I started this blog, the idea was to try to document a journey. A few years ago I had the pleasure of helping to start the technology industry here in Costa Rica. In three and a half years we were able to execute changes that created a whole new industry, and who’s effects rippled throughout Latin America and even the rest of the world. At the time we opened a call center here in Costa Rica, the term outsourcing was barely understood, especially in the service industry. Today there are thriving outsourced call centers all over the world.

There is little documentation of what we did back then, or the role I played in it. When I started in Search of Utopia, the first goal was to better document the history of my new company.

Instead my Blog has evolved into something I never expected. It has taken on a life of its own in many ways.

I look admiringly at some Blogs and realize that In Search of can be a bit raggedy and unfocussed at times. I don’t pretend to be a professional journalist, or even a very good writer. I can be emotional and hotheaded, and depending what time I post, I can be totally confusing. Sometimes I go back and read something and realize it is not what I meant to say at all. But they are my words, and I am grateful for the opportunity to express them.

What started out as a historical document, documenting my current journey, has in many ways become a document that encompasses my entire life. It can be funny, it can be interesting, and at times it can be boring. If you have found your way here via a search engine, I hope that you will take the time to stick around for a bit, give me some feedback, maybe we will both learn something.
